The unique designs of Michael Hevesi are rooted in over 40 years involvement in larger-than-life art based on ethnic motifs, superhero archetypes and the shadow puppet theatre. Central to his shadow casting life forms is the use of lines and forces in balanced alignment, acheiving equilibrium between solid and hollow shapes. It is interesting to note that it was Dame Ninette de Valois, (with her rather characteristic astuteness) who first made the above observations, in recognition of Michael's strong dance element within his work. Born of an English mother, (the ballerina Beryl Morina), and an Austrian-Hungarian father (Hans Hevesi), Michael spent his initial childhood "walking the dunes of Ashkelon", Israel. His father, an Oxford graduate, was excavating the local antiquities. Michael, however was raised and educated in England where he began his preoccupation with primitive masks, which were reflected in his early oil crayon works and terracotta sculptures. While reading Social Anthropology at the University of Kent Michael was introduced to the shadow puppet theatre of Indonesia. This was to clearly cast its influence on all his work from the 1980s to the present day. After graduating Michael exhibited his sculptures and paintings at Barcelona's famous Quatre Gats cafe/gallery. Seven years later in 1986 he returned to Spain to exhibit at the Ateneu, Sitges. The following year he toured with "The Spirit of Mankind" sculpture from Sitges, Barcelona, Granada & Paris. During the 1990's Michael extended his range and in 1991 Harvey Nichols, London featured his sculptural work in nearly 30 of their shop windows. During the decade Michael also exhibited sculptural chairs at the Business Design Centre, London The Ben Uri Gallery, London and the International; Furniture Fairs at Utrecht and Paris. In 1996 Michael wrote a collection of Poems entitled "From the Dunes of Ashkelon to the Chill of the Cathedral Squares" Since 1997 Michael has conceived the idea of housing his sculpture spirits in an "Ark of Creativity". This ark is called "The Corridor of Life"
